Properties of classic Yerba Mate
Classic Yerba Mate is a herb brewed for flavour and yield. Some varieties can even be steeped seven times, making the most of the same dried leaf. Its composition is fully natural. Yerba Mate contains no added flavourings or harmful substances. The classic variety is above all Elaborada con palo, i.e. leaves of various sizes (at least 65%) and stems of Paraguayan holly. But that is not all - it is worth remembering other classic varieties such as Despalada (at least 90% leaves) or Sin Palo (leaves only). Because it contains many components important for the proper development of the body, classic Yerba Mate has satisfying properties in combating fatigue, weariness, lack of energy or in weight loss. It is a health-promoting drink, unlike the caffeine consumed from coffee or energy drinks.
The taste of classic Yerba Mate is varied, as it can change depending on the type (the ratio of leaves to stems), growing conditions and methods, soil type, and the way the leaves are milled, dried and aged. Nevertheless, regardless of weather conditions and other characteristics, Yerba Mate is not harmful. Moreover, whatever the type, it is a valuable source of purine alkaloids known as caffeine and theobromine, as well as polyphenols, saponins, minerals and flavonoids. Classic Yerba Mate is also rich in vitamins such as A, E, C and B vitamins.
