Yerba Mate Sara PU-1 Compuesta con hierbas 500 g
A strongly herbal yerba from Brazil made for the Uruguayan market (export). Not everyone may know this, but Uruguay mostly outsources production to Brazil, where mate for the Uruguayan market is prepared. Here the pack contains not only Paraguayan holly but also 3 other herbs: lemon balm, ginger root and Roman chamomile flower. In general, Tipo PU1 varieties, i.e. Uruguayan-type mate, are fairly demanding, but they reward you with a bold, long-lasting flavour, in this case with interesting herbal notes in the background and a beautiful aroma.
The herbs complement the Paraguayan holly, not the other way round
Uruguayan varieties, i.e. those produced in Brazil for the Uruguayan market, are known for an interesting combination of flavours, especially in the herbal version, as they combine features typical of Argentinian mate with those of Brazilian ones. The herbs in the blend play a supporting role, but they are only a background and do not dominate the classic yerba flavour.
Sara Compuesta means intensity and a beautiful aroma, with mainly finely ground leaves, a large amount of dust, a minimal amount of stems (about 1%) and added herbs. These characteristics make it a fairly demanding mate, so you can't do without the so-called mound. Otherwise, you may have trouble enjoying the flavour of this variety. The intensity and bitterness are nicely complemented by the herbs, giving an interesting balance.
Because of how finely the leaves are ground and the considerable amount of dust, we do not recommend this mate to those just taking their first steps in the rich world of yerba mate. We recommend it to more experienced drinkers and people looking for new flavour experiences. They certainly won't be disappointed with Sara mate.
