Yerba Mate Sara PU-1 Extra Suave 500 g
The Sara brand outsources production to Brazil, where mate for the Uruguayan market is prepared (export). This is a Tipo PU1 variety, i.e. a Uruguayan-type mate with relatively finely ground leaves, a minimal amount of stems (about 1%) and, unlike the brand's two other varieties, a fairly small amount of dust for this type. The result is a lighter, more delicate flavour, while the energising effect remains high.
A relatively mild flavour, but a solid energy boost
PU1 varieties, i.e. those produced in Brazil for the Uruguayan market, are known for an interesting combination of flavours, as they combine features typical of Argentinian mate with those of Brazilian ones. You can taste bitterness and acidity, as well as freshness, creaminess and plant notes. The result is an interesting mix of flavours that will appeal to people looking for a change from the Argentinian, Brazilian or Paraguayan mate they have been drinking so far.
Sara Extra Suave means a high yield, with mainly finely ground leaves, a small amount of dust and a minimal amount of stems. These characteristics make it a fairly demanding mate, so you can't do without the so-called mound. Otherwise, you may have trouble enjoying the flavour of this variety. Thanks to the smaller amount of dust, the flavour is relatively mild and delicate, but the infusion will still give a solid boost.
The infusion guarantees a solid boost that lasts for hours, so the word "suave" here refers strictly to the flavour, not to the effect.
Because of how finely the leaves are ground, we do not recommend this mate to those just taking their first steps in the rich world of yerba mate. We recommend it to more experienced drinkers and people looking for a relatively mild flavour with a solid energy boost. They certainly won't be disappointed with Sara mate.
