A new offering from Sara, a well-regarded brand of Uruguayan-style yerbas. This version contains fairly finely ground leaves with aromatic herbs: lemon balm, field horsetail and gotu kola.
Sara Esplendida con hierbas is a Tipo PU-1 variety, i.e. a Uruguayan-type mate. It is fairly demanding, but it rewards you with a bold, long-lasting flavour, in this case with interesting herbal notes in the background and a beautiful aroma.
Uruguayan varieties, i.e. those produced in Brazil for the Uruguayan market, are known for an interesting combination of flavours, especially in the herbal version, as they combine features typical of Argentinian mate with those of Brazilian ones. The herbs in the blend play a supporting role, but they are only a background and do not dominate the classic yerba flavour.
Sara Esplendida con hierbas is a yerba with a fairly mild character. The yerba bitterness and astringency are relatively moderate, with a light creaminess and grassy, nettle, tea-like and grain notes. The infusion has no heavy or smoky notes and is very pleasant to drink.
It provides a moderate energy boost, but the dried leaf itself has a very high yield and guarantees many hours of mate drinking. You can even reach for it a little later in the day ;)
The fairly fine cut makes this mate a little more demanding, so you can't do without the so-called mound. Otherwise, you may have trouble enjoying the flavour of this variety. The intensity and bitterness are nicely complemented by the herbs, giving an interesting balance.
Because of how finely the leaves are ground and the considerable amount of dust, we do not recommend this mate to those just taking their first steps in the rich world of yerba mate. We recommend it to more experienced drinkers and people looking for new flavour experiences.
