Yerba mate Selent Tradicional 500 g
A brand-new brand on the Polish yerba mate market, straight from Paraguay. One of four traditional versions, with no additives. This particular one is the Tradicional version, containing relatively coarsely cut leaves with medium-sized stems and a moderate amount of dust. It is not excessively dusty compared with other Paraguayan yerbas available.
The aroma on opening is woody and grainy with a slight hint of campfire smoke, a surprising scent for a Paraguayan yerba mate. It will tempt you to prepare a serving quickly and try the infusion hot or as terere. The leaves have a fairly intense green colour with a slight shade of grey, which tells us it is a very fresh batch.
Selent Tradicional is certainly not a typical Paraguayan yerba; its cut and flavours point more towards Argentinian tastes. The infusion is grainy and nutty with a slightly smoky background. Pleasant bitterness and astringency, the flavour is not low-pitched - surprising tastes for a yerba from Paraguay.
It is a curiosity in the Paraguayan world of yerba mate, and not the only surprise from this brand, as Selent also offers chimarrao. Which is rather unusual for yerbas from this country.
