Yerba mate Selent Seleccion Molienda Gruesa 500 g
A brand-new brand on the Polish yerba mate market, straight from Paraguay, with a surprising character. One of four traditional versions, with no additives. This particular one is the Seleccion Molienda Gruesa version, containing coarsely cut leaves with medium-sized stems and practically no dust. It is a selected version that gets the best pieces of ground leaves.
Selent Seleccion Molienda Gruesa is a yerba that will surprise fans of Paraguayan flavours, as it is much closer to Argentinian tastes. This applies to the look (the cut of the yerba), the aroma and the taste of the infusion alike.
On opening the pack, grainy and nutty notes dominate, with noticeable hints of campfire smoke. There is none of the smokiness or even tobacco-like, smoked notes typical of Paraguayan yerbas.
The yerba is cut in a way that is very pleasing to the eye; the leaves are an intense green-grey and quite large, which makes forming the slope remarkably easy.
In the infusion, from the first sip, grainy and nutty accents dominate, interwoven with solid astringency and bitterness. There are also woody notes, light smokiness and sweetness. With each refill, the infusion clearly gains strength and the intensity of the flavours increases, delivering interesting taste sensations.
This is certainly not a typical Paraguayan yerba; it is much closer to Argentinian flavours, e.g. Andresito Despalada, and it also partly reminds us of the Paraguayan classic from the Jerovia brand, where astringency and bitterness dominate.
In terms of energy, it is without doubt a very solid choice that delivers a solid dose of power in the blink of an eye. The flavour washes out slowly, guaranteeing hours of mate drinking at the highest level. It is without doubt a very successful classic available at a very affordable price - be sure to try it!
