Yerba Mate Seleme Centenaria Tradicional 500 g
We head to Brazil with Seleme Centenaria, a Uruguayan-style yerba mate containing finely cut leaves of Paraguayan holly and a moderate amount of dust. It definitely belongs on the budget shelf of yerbas in this style, but in terms of value for money it performs excellently.
When you open the pack, you are welcomed by a light, pleasant aroma, gently hay-like and grassy, not too heavy. The flavours of the infusion, however, are much more intense. In the foreground are above all astringency and bitterness, nicely complemented by creaminess and a biscuit-like sweetness. Add to that tea notes, a slightly drying aftertaste on the tongue and a barely noticeable saltiness.
Seleme Centenaria is a very good Uruguayan-type yerba, an excellent choice to start your adventure with this style in the rich world of yerba mate. It holds its flavour for a long time, is definitely one of the high-yield varieties and also provides an above-average energy kick.
If Uruguayan-style mate is new to you and you're looking for a budget option, Seleme is definitely worth considering.
