Yerba mate Federal Suave Agroecologica 500 g
A new brand in our range, straight from Argentina. A traditional yerba with no additives and a milder taste, naturally aged for 20 months. The brand's founders came to the province of Misiones in Argentina from Switzerland and began a wonderful story that continues to this day. Federal is a family business with a rich tradition dating back to 1924, which means over 100 years of experience in growing Paraguayan holly.
Its name may be a little misleading, as the word Suave might suggest a mild taste or a gentle energy effect - and that is not the case. Federal Suave is definitely an intense and bold Argentinian yerba, so don't let the name fool you ;)
Inside the pack you will find beautiful, coarsely cut leaves with some stems and a small amount of dust - this is the only aspect where you could see a link with the word Suave, as in this respect it is closest to Argentinian yerbas of that type.
The dry leaves of Federal Suave have a relatively mild aroma: gentle, lightly hay-like, grainy, woody and with a light smokiness, like from a campfire. The scent gives no hint of what will happen soon after you pour water over these nicely cut leaves.
The first two pours are indeed mild and fairly delicate, but the flavour of the infusion quickly gains a lot of intensity and strength. Fairly soon you can taste a distinct bitterness and astringency and a drying sensation on the tongue. Add to that woody, grainy and nutty, and tea-like notes, plus a smoky but not overpowering taste.
In terms of energy it is a solid choice, providing a very good energy boost while keeping a high level of intensity over many hours of mate drinking. Federal Suave is quite a surprising yerba, but undoubtedly a very good yerba mate that will appeal above all to experienced fans of Paraguayan holly or those looking for new, bold taste experiences.
