Yerba mate Federal Barbacua Agroecologica 500 g
A new brand in our range, straight from Argentina. Strong and distinctive, dried using the traditional Barbacua method, which gives it a beautiful aroma and intense flavour, and naturally aged for 20 months.
The brand's founders came to the province of Misiones in Argentina from Switzerland and began a wonderful story that continues to this day. Federal is a family business with a rich tradition dating back to 1924, which means over 100 years of experience in growing Paraguayan holly.
The yerba comes in a paper bag with a rough texture, which is always a good solution. The packaging looks impeccable: in the centre you can see the brand name, Federal, with its characteristic sun whose eyes are looking right at you.
When you open the pack, you are hit by a fairly intense scent, with light smoke and plenty of grainy, nutty and woody notes. You can tell right away that this yerba will deliver an exceptional taste experience and an above-average energy boost. The traditional drying method and 20 months of natural ageing surely play a big part in this.
The leaves themselves look impeccable: coarsely cut, greenish-grey leaves with medium-sized stems and a small amount of dust. The aroma is bold and intense and the leaves look superb - all that remains is to see how it tastes.
The infusion is distinctive from the start, without excessive bitterness or astringency; smoky hints are noticeable but do not dominate the flavour. You will also find light creaminess and tea-like, woody, grainy and nutty notes. Its character makes it very close to Isondu Barbacua, which is no longer available or produced. This is undoubtedly a big distinction for this new addition to our wide yerba range.
The leaves hold up to many refills without losing intensity - quite the opposite. Bitterness and astringency become more noticeable, and the flavour of the infusion is well developed, revealing interesting nuances in the background with every sip.
In terms of energy, Federal Barbacua is a very good choice. So if you are looking for a traditional Argentinian yerba from a niche plantation that cultivates long-standing, traditional growing and production methods, you simply have to try it!
