Yerba mate Don Lucas Despalada 500 g
A new product made by la Hoja from Argentina, whose aroma resembles the well-known yerbas from Las Marias, specifically Ytacua and Taragui sin palo. It can be described as strongly grainy, nutty, intense and bold, and at the same time slightly sharp and quite heavy.
Don Lucas certainly smells intriguing - so what does the yerba itself look like?
The pack contains mainly leaves cut quite finely for the Argentinian style, with a small admixture of stems and a moderate amount of dust. The structure of the yerba is not troublesome in any way - even newcomers to the world of yerba will handle it without any problems. There are no additives such as herbs in the blend - an Argentinian classic with nothing added.
The infusion offers interesting flavour sensations: it is astringent, slightly bitter, with a rich profile of noticeable nutty and wheat notes and minimal smokiness. As befits the Argentinian style, there is also a touch of sweetness and a drying aftertaste on the tongue.
The flavour develops with subsequent refills and gradually grows stronger, which is typical of very good varieties - and this new product from la Hoja undoubtedly is one.
