A well-known and highly regarded yerba from the Argentinian company La Hoja, with an intense flavour and a solid energy boost. Available in an economical 1000 g pack.
Don Lucas Despalada certainly smells intriguing - but what do the dried leaves look like?
In the pack you will mainly find leaves cut fairly finely for the Argentinian style, with a small amount of stems and a moderate amount of dust. The structure of the leaves poses no difficulty at all; even newcomers to the world of yerba will handle it without trouble. There are no additions such as herbs in the blend - a classic Argentinian yerba without additions.
The infusion offers interesting flavour sensations: it is astringent, slightly bitter, with a rich profile of noticeable nutty and wheaty notes and minimal smokiness. As befits the Argentinian style, you will also find a touch of sweetness and an astringent aftertaste on the tongue.
The flavour develops with each refill and gradually grows stronger, which is characteristic of very good varieties - as this new arrival from La Hoja undoubtedly is. In terms of energy, it is similar to yerbas such as Salam, Andresito Despalada or Taragui sin palo.
Moreover, Don Lucas is one of the exceptionally long-lasting yerbas: the leaves keep their flavour and strength for a long time. It certainly belongs among the strongly stimulating ones, so lovers of mate with above-average energy will be satisfied. It is also a good choice for those who don't like very smoky and heavy yerbas - we can say with full confidence that it is suitable even for complete beginners in the rich world of Paraguayan holly.
