Another new arrival from the Sara brand, with three added herbs - anise, mint and chamomile - made for the Uruguayan market. As befits a yerba labelled PU-1, the pack contains relatively finely ground leaves, a small amount of stems, a moderate amount of dust and the herbs.
Not everyone may know this, but Uruguay mostly outsources production to Brazil, where mate for the Uruguayan market is prepared. In general, Tipo PU1 varieties, i.e. Uruguayan-type mate, are fairly demanding, but they repay you with a bold, long-lasting flavour - in this case with interesting herbal notes and a rich aroma of the dried leaves.
When you open the pack, an aniseed aroma hits the nose, enriched with sweetish chamomile and refreshing mint - though it is worth mentioning that mint is the least noticeable, both in the aroma and in the scent. Besides the aromas coming directly from the additions in the blend, you will also find tea, nettle and grassy notes.
Sara Compuesta in its new version is undoubtedly a very long-lasting and tasty yerba. From the start there is quite a lot of bitterness and astringency, interwoven with the taste of anise and the sweetness of chamomile. The whole is complemented by tea, nettle, mint and grassy notes. Anise lovers will certainly be pleased with the intensity of this addition, as will those who aren't keen on a minty taste in their yerba. Here the mint is very delicate, barely noticeable.
The blend keeps its flavour and the right level of intensity for a very long time, delivers a solid energy boost and guarantees hours of top-quality mate drinking.
Because of how finely the leaves are ground and the considerable amount of dust, we do not recommend this mate for those just taking their first steps in the rich world of yerba mate. We recommend it rather to more experienced drinkers and those looking for new flavour experiences. They certainly won't be disappointed with Sara mate.
