The Sara brand in a special, limited edition - an interesting option for fans of the Uruguayan style. We already had the chance to try it at the end of 2023 - has its flavour changed? We will find out soon ;)
The Tipo PU1 variety is a Uruguayan-type mate that is quite demanding, but it rewards you with a bold, long-lasting flavour and a high yield. It is made for the Uruguayan market, the largest importer of Yerba mate in the world.
Sara Edicion Especial offers a high yield, made up mainly of finely ground leaves, a fair amount of dust and a minimal amount of stems. That said, you will also find slightly larger leaf pieces compared with other PU-1 versions. This cut makes it a fairly demanding mate that calls for building the so-called mound. Otherwise you may have trouble enjoying the flavour of this variety. Also worth noting is the very solid stimulating effect that comes straight from the infusion.
Because of the fine grind and the large amount of dust, we do not recommend this mate to those just taking their first steps in the rich world of Yerba mate. We recommend it rather to more experienced drinkers and those looking for new taste experiences. They will certainly not be disappointed with Sara mate.
Its aroma is quite fresh, vegetal, with notes of nettle, seaweed, hay, grain and grass. Overall it is a fairly intense aroma that promises a very successful blend.
The infusion is very pleasant and fresh, with plenty of vegetal, grassy and nettle accents. There is also creaminess, as well as seaweed and grain notes. Over time a slightly astringent aftertaste on the tongue and a saltish finish appear. With each subsequent infusion you discover interesting notes and accents in this remarkably rich brew.
Sara in the Edicion Especial version guarantees many hours of mate drinking with a solid dose of energy. With this yerba and others in the Uruguayan style, remember to fill no more than 50-60% of the vessel, otherwise the leaves will "escape" from the vessel as they swell in contact with water.
