Yerba Mate Rojo Suave BCP 500 g
A mild mate from Obera in the province of Misiones, Argentina. Produced by Molinos La Misión SA, a company founded by the son of Ukrainian immigrants, Don Juan Eladio Stepaniuk. One of the foundations of the Rojo brand is natural seasoning of the leaves and stems of Paraguayan holly. The process is not accelerated in any way, and for this mate it takes as long as 24 months, which gives it depth of flavour. Thanks to respecting the natural ageing process, the mate is tastier, smoother and less acidic. Besides flavour, two other things matter: the beautiful aroma and colour of the leaves are preserved.
Mate Rojo Suave BCP is an extremely interesting variety thanks to its unusual flavour and aroma. Almost immediately after opening the pack you can smell plum, even though this is by no means a flavoured mate. Besides this intriguing aroma, you can also detect hay-like and other herbaceous notes. The scent is not sharp and doesn't hit the nose too hard, which encourages you to try it quickly.
The pack contains a minimal amount of dust, as it is a BCP mate (Spanish Bajo contenido de polvo - reduced dust content), as well as medium-sized leaves and stems. This combination makes preparing the mound almost child's play.
Mate Rojo Suave undoubtedly offers a pleasant, light bitterness, a puckering effect on the tongue, a delicate plum aftertaste, woody notes and no smokiness at first (when brewed at a lower temperature). Over time, however, a light astringency and smokiness appear, which makes it really tasty!
With hotter water, the intensity of the plum, astringency and smokiness increases markedly. In summary - very positive and somewhat surprising taste sensations for a BCP mate; these often lack bite and depth of flavour, but here it is excellent.
If you are looking for a serious stimulating kick, you won't find it in Mate Rojo Suave. It definitely belongs to the moderately stimulating mates, partly due to its reduced dust content. Recommended for beginners because it is easy to drink, and for those looking for interesting flavours thanks to its noticeable plum taste and aroma.
