Yerba Mate Mate Rojo "10" Tradicional Argentina 500 g
A classic yerba from Oberá in the province of Misiones, Argentina, in a standard 500 g pack. Until now it was only available in a smaller 250 g doypack. Produced by Mate Rojo (Molinos La Misión SA), a company founded by the son of Ukrainian immigrants, Don Juan Eladio Stepaniuk. Its portfolio includes brands such as Mate Rojo, Rodeo, "10", Il Capitano, Chamame and Kurupi.
The pack in Argentina's blue and white colours, with the number "10" in the centre, may bring to mind Leo Messi or Diego Maradona, who both wore the "10" for the popular Albicelestes.
The "10" Tradicional pack contains fairly coarsely cut leaves with medium-sized stems and a negligible amount of dust. The yerba can certainly be described as photogenic and pleasing to the eye.
The dry leaf smells strongly grainy-nutty, woody, slightly grassy, hay-like and vegetal. It is also light and pleasant, without smoky notes.
The infusion is fairly light and mild at first, but after a few pours it gains strength and a bold flavour. There is solid bitterness and astringency and plenty of grainy-nutty notes; the infusion is woody, creamy, slightly algae-like, with an astringent aftertaste on the tongue. It is a successful blend that will appeal to many fans of the Argentinian style.
Mate Rojo "10" Tradicional offers a good energising effect and high yield - a recipe for many hours of enjoyable mate drinking.
