Yerba Mate Mate Rojo Molienda Fina 500 g
A new yerba from Mate Rojo: a traditional version, but in the Uruguayan style, i.e. containing mainly finely ground leaves with some stems. Produced by Mate Rojo (Molinos La Misión SA), a company founded by the son of Ukrainian immigrants, Don Juan Eladio Stepaniuk. Its portfolio includes brands such as Mate Rojo, Rodeo, "10", Il Capitano, Chamame and Kurupi.
The pack closely resembles the well-known Mate Rojo Tradicional; what sets it apart from the outside is the "molienda fina" label and a sticker with the same wording, indicating a finer grind. It will be an interesting choice for fans of the Uruguayan style.
As with the Tradicional version, the base is yerba naturally aged for 18 months, which picks up interesting nuances and notes during that time. Here, however, we get very finely ground leaves and medium and coarsely cut stems. It is undoubtedly a more demanding yerba, but worth trying, as it guarantees a rich and complex infusion.
When you open the pack, you are greeted by grassy, grainy, woody, nettle, hay-like and slightly smoky aromas. Overall the aroma is fairly solid and intense, tempting you to load your gourd right away.
The infusion is solid and bold from the start, with notes typical of the Uruguayan style, i.e. grassy, vegetal and nettle notes. These are complemented by more Argentinian notes such as grainy, woody, hay-like and tea-like ones. The infusion has a light creaminess and plenty of bitterness and astringency. Over time you will also notice a slightly salty finish and smoky notes.
Thanks to its grind, the yerba forms a mound very well, so when prepared the traditional way it guarantees many hours of mate drinking with a very tasty yerba. Mate Rojo Molienda Fina is a tasty and strongly stimulating yerba without additives. Mate Rojo undoubtedly delivers once again - be sure to try it!
