A brand-new addition to our range that we had never had the chance to try before - a pity, because it is a very successful Argentinian yerba. The Atigua Organica logo features three distinctive leaves in a circle, representing the traditional cycle of mate drinking and sharing yerba together.
Atigua stands for "that special moment" of sharing yerba mate with the people close to us. According to the producer, this unique project combines the shapes of the rainforest, the colour and taste of its leaves, and the balance represented by the brand's logo, which highlights the three pillars of their values: the planet, yerba mate and you (the mate drinker).
The yerba itself comes from organic cultivation, around 30% of which are wild-growing sites (a nature reserve). The leaves are aged naturally, during which they acquire interesting notes in both the aroma and the flavour of the infusion. No artificial pesticides are used in cultivation, and every production process is carefully thought through to guarantee a high-quality product made in harmony with and respect for the natural environment.
When you open the pack, you are greeted by a strongly woody, hay-like and grain-and-nut aroma, without any heavy notes. It certainly promises a pleasant yerba that fits perfectly into the classic Argentinian flavours of the Misiones province.
At first the infusion is relatively mild, with moderate bitterness and astringency. Only after the second infusion does it gain character and intensity: the grain-and-nut, hay-like and woody notes come to the fore, and a light creaminess can also be felt. With subsequent infusions it keeps a high level and delivers interesting flavours.
There are no smoky or heavier notes in the infusion, which will undoubtedly appeal to fans of lighter flavours without excessive bitterness or smokiness. Atigua Organica is a well-energising yerba, but without an excessive energy kick. It guarantees many hours of pleasant mate drinking with an exceptional yerba from a niche plantation.
