You may not know this, but Uruguay mostly has its mate produced in Brazil, where it is prepared for the Uruguayan market. The Tipo PU1 variety is a Uruguayan-style mate that is fairly demanding, but rewards you with a bold, long-lasting flavour and leaves that last a long time. It is made for the Uruguayan market, the largest importer of yerba mate in the world.
An unusual combination of Argentinian and Brazilian mate characteristics
PU1 varieties, i.e. those produced in Brazil for the Uruguayan market, offer an interesting combination of flavours, featuring characteristics of both Argentinian and Brazilian mates. You can taste bitterness and acidity, as well as freshness, creaminess and vegetal notes. The result is an interesting mix of flavours that will appeal to anyone looking for a change from the mates from Argentina or Paraguay they have been drinking so far.
Sara Tradicional lasts a long time and consists mainly of finely ground leaves, a good amount of dust and very few stems. Because of this, it is a fairly demanding mate that needs a so-called mound. Otherwise, you may have trouble enjoying the flavour of this variety. Also worth mentioning is the very solid stimulating effect that comes straight from the infusion.
Because of how finely the leaves are ground and the amount of dust, we do not recommend this mate to those just taking their first steps in the rich world of yerba mate. We recommend it rather to more experienced drinkers and to those looking for new taste experiences. They certainly will not be disappointed with Sara.
