Yerba Mate Mate Rojo "10" Despalada Tipo Uruguaya 500 g
A classic Uruguayan-style yerba from the town of Oberá in the Misiones province of Argentina, in a small (250 g) pack. It is produced by the Mate Rojo brand (Molinos La Misión SA), a company founded by the son of Ukrainian immigrants, Don Juan Eladio Stepaniuk. Their portfolio includes brands such as Mate Rojo, Rodeo, Il Capitano, Chamame and Kurupi.
The yellow pack with the number "10" in the middle may bring to mind Leo Messi or Diego Maradona, who both wore the "10" on their backs in the colours of the popular Albicelestes.
Inside the "10" Tradicional Despalada Tipo Uruguaya pack you will find finely ground leaves with a small addition of stems and a moderate amount of dust.
This cut will not be for everyone, but fans of the Uruguayan style will certainly be pleased.
When you open the pack, you are greeted by an interesting aroma dominated by plant, cereal, nettle, hay-like, seaweed and malty accents. The aroma is neither heavy nor overly deep, so it will appeal to those looking for slightly lighter flavours in the infusion.
The first infusions are relatively light and mild; bitterness and astringency are noticeable but at a medium level. Add to that grassy and plant notes, a pleasant creaminess and a hint of saltiness on the finish. With subsequent infusions the bitterness and astringency grow slightly stronger, but they are never excessive. There are no smoky or heavier accents in the infusion, which makes it an ideal choice for people who want to get to know the Uruguayan style but are afraid of excessive intensity or bitterness. You will also find accents of roasted sunflower seeds, seaweed and hay - a very successful composition.
The infusion provides a good energy boost, but without excessive or sudden stimulation. The yerba is economical and guarantees many hours of high-quality mate drinking. "10" Despalada Tipo Uruguaya is definitely a good recommendation for those looking for new Uruguayan-style flavours or wanting to discover this style.
