Yerba Mate "10" Reserva Tradicional 250 g
An interesting mate from the town of Oberá in the Misiones province of Argentina, which appeared a few months earlier and is now also available in a smaller 250 g pack. It is produced by a cooperation of the Mate Pampa and Mate Rojo brands (Molinos La Misión SA), a company founded by the son of Ukrainian immigrants, Don Juan Eladio Stepaniuk. Their portfolio includes brands such as Mate Rojo, Rodeo, Chamame and Kurupi.
The bright pink pack with the number "10" strongly brings to mind Leo Messi, one of the greatest footballers of all time and a big fan of Paraguayan holly. Inside the pack you will find fairly coarsely cut leaves with medium-sized stems and hardly any dust.
The aroma of the dry yerba can be described as strongly cereal-nutty, woody, slightly grassy, hay-like, gently fruity and plant-like. The aroma is undoubtedly light and pleasant, with no smoky accents.
From the first infusion it is fairly intense, but the bitterness and astringency are in no way overwhelming. The typical Argentinian flavours and the background accents blend well together, resulting in a very good Argentinian yerba. Cereal-nutty and woody flavours dominate, complemented by an astringent sensation on the tongue and a light grassiness and hay-like note.
"10" Reserva gives a solid boost - it is not exceptionally strong, but it provides enough energy for many hours of mate drinking while keeping the right level of intensity for quite a long time. Mate Rojo has undoubtedly done a good job and delivered a tasty Argentinian yerba.
