Yerba mate La Hermosa Tradicional 500 g
A traditional Argentinian yerba from Misiones province has joined our range - one we first had the chance to try back in 2021. It took a while to add it to our regular offer, but the main thing is that it has finally arrived!
And it will no doubt make up for the wait with the above-average flavour of its infusion. The La Hermosa pack certainly catches the eye and stands out from the other packs you come across in the world of yerba. But as always, what counts most is what is inside the pack, not how it looks.
Inside la Hermosa Tradicional you will find fairly coarsely cut leaves with some medium-sized stems and a moderate amount of dust. When you open the pack, you are greeted by a fairly mild aroma dominated by woody, grainy and nutty notes. There is also a slight hay-like quality and a minimal smoky accent, like the smell of a campfire a good few metres away.
So to the attractive pack we add a nice cut (grind) of the dried leaf and an appealing scent - what about the taste?
The infusion fits perfectly into the typical Argentinian flavours of Misiones province. At first the intensity is a touch lower and it is fairly light, but with each refill the intensity grows and things get really interesting in the gourd. The bitterness and astringency are very pleasant and noticeable, joined by grainy-nutty and woody notes, a hay-like quality and a little sweetness. Each sip also leaves a characteristic puckering aftertaste on the tongue. Never a dull moment in the gourd!
In terms of yield it is solid and holds up well through many refills, delivering a decent but not excessive dose of energy. Overall, la Hermosa is a very good choice that will surely appeal to fans of brands such as Alhild, Mate Rojo or Tucangua.
