Yerba mate Jepe'a Tradicional "Compromiso social" 500 g
A high-quality, naturally aged traditional option from a niche plantation in the Misiones province. The brand aims to produce to the highest standards while respecting the natural environment and valuing the local community by paying fairly for their hard work. This is also the reason for the relatively high price of the product.
The yerba comes in a stylish paper pack that is tightly sealed and guarantees a beautiful aroma right after opening. The aroma can be described as slightly hay-like and pleasant, with noticeable grainy, nutty and woody notes and a light smoky accent.
Jepe'a Tradicional is nicely cut, the leaves are fairly large, so the yerba looks quite remarkable in the gourd. Besides the leaves, there is also some stem content, and practically no dust, or only a minimal amount.
The flavour of this yerba is interestingly complex and rich, noticeable from the first pour. The infusion offers a pleasant yet unobtrusive bitterness and astringency, interwoven with a delicate sweetness and grainy-nutty accents. There is also a minimal saltiness and a subtle smoky note. As befits a true Argentinian yerba, there is also a drying aftertaste on the tongue, and the flavour profile spreads across the palate, asking for more refills.
The yerba holds up quite well to refills and guarantees many hours of very pleasant mate drinking. In terms of energy it is solid, but it is not an exceptionally stimulating option among Argentinian classics. However, the main strength of Jepe'a is its flavour and the brand's mission, rather than strictly its energy effect.
