Yerba Mate Guayaki Traditional Organic 500 g
We know the Guayaki brand from two products that were available in our range in previous years, between 2022 and 2024. Back then we had the chance to try San Mateo and a different edition of Tradicional. That version was a blend from three different countries, whereas the new edition contains only yerba from Argentina. It now also comes in a standard 500 g pack instead of 12 oz (approx. 454 g).
The brand has always offered high-quality yerba, and this time is no exception. Inside the pack you will find fairly coarsely cut leaves with medium-sized stems and a small amount of dust. The yerba looks extremely attractive and undoubtedly makes you want to prepare it right away.
When you open the pack of Guayaki Tradicional, you are hit by a strongly hay-like aroma with noticeable accents of roasted sunflower seeds and nutty-cereal notes. The aroma is light and pleasant, with no smoky notes.
The first infusions are fairly moderate in intensity; the taste is light, strongly hay-like and quite acidic, while the bitterness and astringency are fairly mild compared with the other flavours. Over time woody and cereal-nutty notes come through, and the bitterness and astringency increase.
This is the type of Argentinian yerba in which you will not find heavier or smoky accents, so it will appeal to those who prefer lighter varieties. In terms of energy, Guayaki can be rated as a good choice - it is not overly strong, but it helps maintain the right level of focus and concentration for many hours. The yerba also offers good yield, guaranteeing many hours of good-quality mate drinking.
