Opis produktu
Yerba Mate Fortin Tradicional 500 g
Fortin is one of the oldest yerba mate growers in Paraguay. Its history dates back to 1951 and the Neumann family, who emigrated from Germany to Paraguay in search of a better world.
Yerba Mate Fortin is still produced today; the family business is based in Nueva Germania in the San Pedro department. The brand's main principle is natural production that respects the culture and heritage of the indigenous population (the Guarani people). Cultivation is free from agrochemicals, production is small-scale, the harvest is selected, and the leaves are naturally aged for 12 months, gaining additional flavour.
Inside, as befits a classic Paraguayan cut, you'll find fairly finely and medium cut leaves mixed with more coarsely cut stems and a moderate amount of dust. The leaves smell of campfire smoke, smoked notes and hay. The aroma is intense, bold and extremely inviting.
It starts with slightly smoky flavours and a noticeable astringency with a small smoked accent. With each refill and as time passes between refills, the bitterness and astringency grow significantly stronger. Smoky, almost tobacco-like accents make their presence felt quite strongly, and there is also a light acidity and a drying aftertaste on the tongue. Add to that smoked plum or walnut and you get a very rich composition of flavours.
The strength of the infusion cannot go unnoticed: in my experience, it is one of the most stimulating Paraguayan yerbas I have tested so far. It gave me an above-average energy kick for many hours of intense mental and physical work, helping me stay focused and concentrated.
Another important aspect is the high yield of the leaves which, like Onoiru, will satisfy any fan of long, full-bodied mate sessions. In my case, I managed to pour over 1.5 l of water through a serving of approx. 50 g and the flavour was still noticeable. That's definitely a top-shelf result.
Yerba Mate Fortin is an excellent choice for lovers of the Paraguayan style, rich in intensity and full flavour. Be sure to try it.
