Yerba Mate Don Conrado 500 g

Don Conrado - an example of a very good, well-balanced Argentinian mate whose subtlety and mildness will win over many. Produced in an artisanal way with respect for tradition.
The packaging has a simple yet beautiful design showing an elderly gentleman - presumably don Conrado himself - holding a matero (mate gourd) full of mate.
The packaging also tells us that this is the bajo contenido de polvo version, meaning it has a reduced dust content, and that it has been naturally aged.
Once opened, the pleasant aroma of the mate invites you to fill your vessel and pour in the water quickly. So let's do just that! The leaves are very nicely cut: they contain coarsely chopped leaves and stems and only a token amount of dust. Without a doubt, one of the most nicely cut mates I have ever seen.
The first sips bring mild bitterness, a slightly astringent feel on the tongue, no smokiness, and notes of bread crust and nuts. You will also notice a gentle creaminess and sweetness in the infusion. The flavour of this mate matures with each infusion; you will certainly pick up other notes and nuances, while the bitterness and astringency grow slightly stronger. Overall, the flavour of Yerba mate don Conrado can be described as multi-layered and rich, similar to Yemari, Alhild or Mathienzo. In terms of stimulation it is moderate, so do not expect an exceptional energy boost from it.
Don Conrado is an excellent choice at every stage of your mate journey. I liked it, and I am sure I will keep coming back to it on calmer days. It will also appeal to those just taking their first steps in the rich world of Yerba mate.
