Yerba Mate Cuatro Caminos Organica 500 g
An organic yerba mate from the province of Misiones in Argentina, produced by a family business in harmony with nature, in a conventional way. The brand's history goes back to the 1960s, when Gustavo Bjorklund bought the first mate drying machine. Since 1988 the company has been successfully run by Gustavo's son, Klas Ruben.
Cuatro Caminos places great emphasis on product quality, and the production process includes a 2-year break between harvests from a given plant so that it has time to regenerate completely naturally. Production of fully organic mate began in 2004 and is certified by Organico Argentina and OIA. Thanks to improvements to the production process in 2008, the mate produced by Cuatro Caminos can be described as sin humo, i.e. smoke-free. The leaves are dried with hot air, which is visible in their strongly green colour, much more intense than in other mates from Argentina.
The company is growing successfully and reaching more and more customers, including in Poland. We're glad to be able to present this wonderful organic mate to you. But we should say something about the mate itself, not just the company.
Everything is packed in a cardboard box, and inside you will find a paper bag containing the delicious mate. In this way the producer doesn't forget about the environment either, creating biodegradable packaging. After opening the packs, the more intense colour of the leaves immediately catches the eye compared with other well-known varieties from Misiones, or from Argentina in general.
The scent of Cuatro Caminos Organica can be described as fresh and strongly herbaceous. You can tell you're unlikely to find smoky notes in this mate, and indeed you won't. What you will find is bitterness, which grows in strength and intensity with hotter water. There is no shortage of grassy, nutty and woody notes, as well as a hay-like quality and a pleasant sweetness. Although the flavour of this mate can be described as fairly mild, it is certainly not shallow or one-dimensional; it is rich, with the notes mentioned above.
The leaves are cut to a medium size, as are the stems, and there isn't much dust in Cuatro Caminos. That is certainly good news for those who prefer less dusty varieties of yerba mate. Available in limited quantities, be sure to try it while it's still available!
