Yerba Mate Arai Barbacua 500 g

A new traditional release from the well-regarded brand Arai , dried using the Barbacua method, which gives the yerba character and a distinctive smoky, often smoked flavour. We had the chance to try it at the end of 2024 and liked it so much that we decided to add it to our range.
 
It also owes its character to natural aging lasting 24 months, during which it picks up interesting flavours and background nuances.
 
It is worth adding that on the outside it is packed in a cardboard box, while inside it is tightly sealed in a paper bag, which ensures that the leaf does not lose its aroma and flavour. When you open the pack, you notice a slightly sharp and smoky aroma, but without excessive intensity. Add to that a gentle smoked, woody and grainy-nutty accent. It undoubtedly promises an exceptionally good Barbacua-style yerba.
 
Inside the pack you will find medium-sized leaves and stems and a moderate amount of dust. The leaf is nicely cut and invites you to fill your gourd and pour the water straight away.
 
From the first pour Arai Barbacua delivers an exceptional taste experience: bitterness and astringency are clearly noticeable, and a smoked flavour makes itself known, reminiscent of the well-known Isondu Barbacua or Dulce Beso. To us, the smoked accent brings to mind smoked paprika with its characteristic sweetness and creaminess. There is also a slightly smoky flavour, but it is not excessive and does not dominate the overall taste. In the infusion you will also find woody, grainy and nutty notes and, over time, a light saltiness.

Arai Barbacua is a very distinct and bold mate with a very good stimulating effect and a solid yield. A good choice for lovers of Barbacua yerbas.
