Opis produktu
Yerba mate Ajedrez Tradicional 500 g
We first had the chance to try it in 2021 and liked it straight away. We are extremely happy that, thanks to our recommendation, it has been brought to Poland and added to our range.
Ajedrez Tradicional is a classic Argentinian yerba with reduced dust content, i.e. BCP (bajo contenido de polvo). The brand's logo features a chess piece - and not without reason, as the name Ajedrez simply means chess.
The yerba itself is aged for 24 months, which is enough time to "awaken" interesting flavours and aromas from the Paraguayan holly leaves. The brand also deserves a big round of applause for the way it is packed. The pack is airtight, so all the wonderful aromas stay inside and the yerba does not go stale. In addition, the pack is made of paper, a plus for the eco-friendly approach.
After this short introduction, let us move on to the yerba itself. When you open the pack, you are hit by an intense aroma of hay and campfire smoke, and a scent reminiscent of bread crust or bread fresh out of the oven. This is certainly due to the proper, airtight sealing and, above all, to the high quality of the product.
The aromas are extremely intriguing - and what does the leaf look like? The grey-green leaves are quite coarsely cut, there are also some stems, and there is practically no dust at all. In short, a beautiful, classic Argentinian cut.
We form a mound and pour. At first the flavours are very subdued and delicate: the yerba is slightly nutty and woody with a noticeable subtle bitterness. You will also find tannic notes, a hint of bread crust and a slightly cereal taste, but practically no sharpness or smoky aftertaste. With subsequent pours, the bitterness and astringency gain a little strength, but overall this yerba belongs to the milder and more delicate group. Which does not mean it is bland - nothing could be further from the truth. It definitely does not lack flavour.
It is solidly long-lasting: after pouring a full thermos, the flavours were still noticeable. In terms of energy it is average, a choice for less demanding days. Worth mentioning: pouring 1 litre of water through a serving of approx. 50 g took about 3 hours, so it is safe to say I enjoyed it enormously.
In this case, however, our attention should be focused mainly on the taste and its variety. If you like Argentinian classics with an interesting, rich background, Ajedrez is definitely for you. For us it is undoubtedly a Premium product and we warmly recommend it.
