Yerba Mate Tres Generaciones Tradicional Barbacua 1000 g
The second brand from the province of Misiones in the portfolio of Harry Omar Burger. The brand has been around since 1933 and, as its name suggests, it brings together three generations of yerba work through almost 100 years of Yerbales experience. This is a yerba we had been keeping an eye on for quite a while, so we are very happy to finally share it with you.
Tres Generaciones Tradicional is a classic yerba without additives, dried using the traditional Barbacua method, which gives it its character in both aroma and flavour. Add natural ageing, and the result is an above-average yerba for lovers of strong, distinctive flavours from Argentina.
It comes packed in rough brown paper that perfectly reflects the character of this yerba. And what's inside? Fairly finely cut Paraguayan holly leaves with medium-sized stems and quite a lot of dust. That makes it not a yerba for everyone, as it can be a bit more demanding to prepare. However, if you prepare yerba the traditional way, i.e. with a mound, you will have no trouble drinking it at all.
The dry leaf smells very intense: smoky, hay-like and woody. It is certainly one of the most aromatic yerbas from Argentina, thanks to Barbacua drying and natural ageing in the right conditions.
The infusion is very rich and complex right from the start, and remarkably bold. The first sips bring plenty of yerba bitterness and astringency, along with interesting notes: light smokiness, tea-like, salty, woody and grainy-nutty. There is also a characteristic astringent aftertaste on the tongue - a lot is going on in this infusion.
The yerba holds up well to repeated infusions and keeps the infusion intense and energising for a long time. In its character it is somewhat reminiscent of other well-known Barbacua yerbas such as Picada Vieja, Semeniuk or Salto Bielakowicz.
Tres Generaciones is an excellent Barbacua that guarantees hours of enjoyable mate drinking with a solid energy boost. If you like yerbas with above-standard intensity, this is definitely for you!
