Yerba Mate Relumbron Tradicional 500 g
A newcomer straight from the town of Apostoles in the province of Misiones, Argentina. Interestingly, the company states that its products are naturally aged, dried using traditional methods, and that sorting and packing are done by hand. The brand also values strict control of the raw material and focuses on cultivation without pesticides or artificial fertilisers. The result is a very good end product at an affordable price.
The Relumbron brand belongs to Rodrigo Daniel Escobar, who fairly recently started producing this yerba, available in two versions: classic (Tradicional) and herbal (Hierbas Serranas). One thing we're sure of: if they maintain their current level, their products will conquer the European market quite quickly.
Yerba Mate Relumbron Tradicional is the classic version without additives. It contains medium-sized leaves of Paraguayan holly mixed with stems and a moderate amount of dust. When you open the pack, you'll notice an intense aroma, slightly sharp and smoky, woody with a hint of hay.
The infusion, in turn, offers interesting flavours: oaty (cereal) notes, a light astringency, a pleasant bitterness, a light smokiness reminiscent of plum and a gentle sweetness. The flavour is interestingly built, so there's never a dull moment in the matero (mate gourd). The leaves have a fairly high yield: a 40-50 g serving can take about a litre of water before the so-called lavado, i.e. when the leaves are washed out of flavour.
In terms of energy, it is above average for an Argentine yerba. It will provide a solid energy boost for several hours of intense physical or mental work.
Relumbron is a good choice for those looking for more intense flavours among Argentine yerbas.
