Yerba Mate Monte Nativa Barbacua 500 g
An outstanding yerba from a small, almost niche plantation located in the special Yaboty biosphere near El Soberbio in the province of Misiones. The plantation focuses on sustainable agriculture, traditional growing methods, belt drying and Barbacua drying, and natural aging of the product for two years.
The product is packed in rough-textured paper that gives it character, with a simple label - simple solutions are often the best. And so it is here: you can touch the retro-style paper packaging, and the aroma of the leaf, distinct and intense, comes through the pack. Even before opening, the product puts you in the mood to try it and quickly fill your gourd.
As befits a yerba dried using the Barbacua method, Monte Nativa has an exceptionally bold aroma with smoked, hay-like, grassy, woody and nutty-grainy notes. The aroma is complex and rich, promising that the infusion will not be boring and that all fans of the Barbacua style will be delighted.
The pack contains coarsely and medium-cut leaves with medium-sized stems and minimal dust. The leaf is undoubtedly nicely cut and invites you to fill your gourd and prepare it straight away.
From the first sip the infusion surprises with its intensity: woody, grainy-nutty, grassy and tea-like notes intertwine with a light smokiness and pronounced bitterness and astringency. The fullness of flavour spreads across the mouth, leaving a drying sensation on the tongue. There is also a light saltiness and a slight creaminess, and over time notes of bread crust and roasted sunflower seeds appear.
The richness and complexity of flavours make you reach for the next refill more eagerly and more often. Your taste buds will certainly be delighted ;)
The leaf has a very high yield, and the infusion keeps the right level for many hours and provides a solid energy boost.
You can clearly tell that the plantation has done an excellent job here and delivered a top product that, despite its relatively high price, is worth trying at least once. In terms of flavour, Monte Nativa Barbacua performs much better than, for example, Anna Park, which is in a similar price range.
