Yerba mate Encanto Tradicional 500 g
Another new brand in our range, from the town of Oberá in the province of Misiones, Argentina. It is produced by Establecimiento Yerbatero ANRA S.R.L., whose portfolio also includes the Irupe and Mateando Te brands.
This version is a traditional yerba with no additives, containing fairly coarsely cut Paraguayan holly leaves with medium-sized stems and a small amount of dust.
The producer recommends filling 3/4 of the vessel with leaves, making the first pour with water at around 40°C, and then using water at around 80°C. Traditionally, of course - with a slope.
The dry leaves smell fairly mild: hay-like, woody, grainy and nutty, faintly grassy and lightly smoky. The aroma is fairly complex but not overly intense, and it invites you to fill your gourd and taste it without delay.
The infusion is relatively light and mild at first, gaining intensity and character over time. Encanto Tradicional is pleasantly woody, grainy and nutty, with hay-like and grassy notes as well as light smokiness and creaminess. Bitterness and astringency appear at a solid level. Interestingly, the infusion stands up well to refills and keeps its intensity for a long time.
This is a very successful Argentinian yerba without blends that delivers a solid energy boost. At first glance it does not stand out, but it will win you over quite quickly. There is a lot going on in the infusion, which makes it a good choice for everyday mate drinking, especially when you need a good level of focus and concentration.
