Yerba Mate Dorado Tradicional 500 g
A classic Argentinian yerba from a niche plantation with remarkable strength hidden inside. Its pack shows a fish leaping out of a rushing river - a design we are seeing for the first time.
Inside the pack you will find medium-sized leaves with medium stems and a moderate amount of dust. The aroma of the dry leaf is fairly intense and bold, with plenty of woody, grainy-nutty and hay-like notes, plus a slightly smoky, tea-like hint. The aromas are distinct but rather typical of Argentinian yerbas from the province of Misiones; still, the level of intensity suggests that the flavour and effect will be distinct too.
And, as expected, they are. Dorado Tradicional delivers an exceptional taste experience from the start. There is plenty of bitterness and astringency, along with noticeable woody and grainy-nutty accents and a light smokiness. After a while, tannic notes reminiscent of strong black tea appear, together with a light saltiness associated with umami.
An exceptionally successful yerba that I personally took to from the very first sip at the 17th Yerba Meeting in Rzeszów, where it kept me company, gave me energy and helped me stay focused and concentrated during our conversations.
Dorado Tradicional may seem rather unremarkable at first glance, but after opening the pack and smelling the contents you gradually change your mind. That turns into a completely positive surprise right after the first pour and sip. It hides an above-average dose of energy and an intense, complex flavour that guarantees many hours of enjoyable mate drinking.
