Yerba mate Chamame Tradicional 500 g
A new arrival that reached us in early July 2024, but we had already had the chance to test it a year earlier, in 2023. The tests went well, so it joined our wide range along with other Argentinian goodies.
On opening the pack, the scent of the yerba is strongly hay-like, grainy and nutty, and overall fairly light in terms of aroma intensity. Chamame Tradicional contains fairly coarsely cut leaves with medium-sized stems, and the amount of dust is minimal. The yerba certainly looks inviting, and every yerba mate fan, regardless of experience, will have no trouble preparing it.
Its taste can be described as bitter, earthy, grainy and nutty, with slight astringency and noticeable grassy and tea-like accents. The first two, maybe three refills are relatively mild, but the infusion gradually gains strength and intensity, and the flavours mentioned become more pronounced and much more noticeable than at the start.
Chamame is without doubt a fairly little-known brand, but given its character we strongly recommend giving it a try. It provides a solid energy boost, and the yerba has a good yield, making it ideal for everyday drinking.
