Yerba mate Caballo Negro Tradicional Premium 500 g
We have already had a yerba with a horse on the packaging (the La Tranquera brand), and this time a complete novelty has arrived on the Polish Paraguayan holly market. True to its name, the Caballo Negro brand has a black horse in its logo. Interestingly, the founders of the brand have Polish and Ukrainian roots through their ancestors. Production is small-scale and respects traditional methods of cultivation and processing, as well as the ageing process itself, which is not artificially accelerated in any way.
It all comes in a paper pack with an extremely simple design that charms with its simplicity, and the texture of the pack catches the eye. Inside you will find fairly coarsely cut leaves with some stems and practically no dust.
Milder than the Barbacua version, but rich in flavour, with an extremely extractive infusion enriched with interesting background notes. Tradicional does not have the characteristic smokiness of the Barbacua version, but it is just as interesting and above average.
The leaves immediately catch the eye thanks to their coarse cut, and when you open the pack, the intense grainy and nutty aroma encourages you to prepare the infusion quickly. The contents of the pack hit your nose with an intense scent reminiscent of a campfire and hay, with a slightly grassy and grainy aroma.
From the very first pour you will notice considerable bitterness and astringency, while the grainy and nutty notes are distinct and make their presence clearly felt. In the background there are hay-like accents, moderate smokiness and a mild grassiness and sweetness. This is a completely different character from Barbacua, but it will certainly find its fans, as it fits perfectly into the traditional flavours of the Misiones province.
Caballo Negro Tradicional is an above-average offering in terms of energy, and the same goes for its yield. The leaves withstand repeated refills and release their flavour for a long time, guaranteeing many hours of top-quality mate drinking.
