Yerba mate Adelga Mate Dulce (sweet) 500 g
One of the three yerbas available from the Adelga Mate brand, an unusual blend with a sweet taste thanks to the sweeteners it contains. Besides Paraguayan holly, the blend also contains poleo, green tea, peppermint and lemon verbena. It is undoubtedly a yerba aimed at those who find bitterness a problem - the herbal additions and sweeteners effectively neutralise it.
Inside the bag you will find fairly coarsely cut leaves, some stems and visible added herbs. The amount of dust is small, which makes it easy to prepare.
It can be prepared both the traditional way, hot, and cold. It is undoubtedly aimed at all fans of Mate Dulce (sweet/sweetened), while fans of Mate Amargo (bitter) may be disappointed :)
The aroma of the leaf is fairly mild, gently tea-like, minty and citrusy. It is one of the rather delicate, unobtrusive ones. The flavour of the infusion itself, however, is a completely different story.
Sweetness clearly dominates the infusion thanks to the two sweeteners. The flavour of the yerba and the additions definitely takes a back seat, which for some may be an advantage, and for others a drawback that makes the yerba rather hard to get through.
Besides the distinct sweetness, there is a gentle bitterness and astringency, as well as subtle minty, tea-like and citrus notes.
Adelga Dulce will effectively quench your thirst on hot summer days and improve concentration and focus; in terms of energy it is rather mildly stimulating. The leaves hold up to refills for quite a long time and slowly release their flavour over many hours
