The scent - or more precisely, the aromatic resin that releases a unique, slightly citrusy flavour and aroma into the infusion. Among Indigenous peoples this tree is considered sacred, which is why such great care goes into making these vessels.

Its care and preparation are extremely important to keep it in good condition, i.e. to avoid possible cracks. It is also worth considering vessels with a metal rim - they are the most functional, durable and robust. Compared to matero without a rim, they last longer and are more resistant to damage.
Matero Palo Santo Guampa XL is a version with a metal rim whose shape resembles a traditional guampa for terere (cold yerba mate), hence its name "guampa". The design is fairly simple, with characteristic grooves in the upper and lower parts of the vessel, which are meant to relieve the stresses that arise as the wood gets wet and dries, and thus prevent potential cracks.
The vessel itself can be described as solid, fairly roomy, exceptionally stable and comfortable to hold. The vessel holds between 190 and 230 ml (when filled "to the brim" without mate), letting you enjoy the unique taste of your mate at any time of day. Ideal for preparing one large serving of yerba and enjoying it for many hours.

As for using the vessel, it is a good idea to empty it of leftover mate on the same day you use it. After emptying, simply rinse the inside gently, wipe it thoroughly with a paper towel and leave it to dry upright in a well-ventilated place for at least 3-4 hours or until the next use the following day.
