Opis produktu
Calabash gourd Calabaza "Espiral" Negro 200-280 ml
A fairly large yerba mate vessel made from the calabash fruit, a cousin of the pumpkin. Calabaza "Espiral" gourd is a natural vessel with a capacity of 200-280 ml. The variation in capacity comes from the fact that it is a natural product and no two pieces are identical. A calabash gourd needs to be properly prepared first, through a process called curado.
The vessel is dyed black and decorated with a distinctive spiral pattern and a metal rim. It can be a good choice for a first calabash if you want a vessel at a relatively low price.
Proper care of the gourd (so-called curado of the calabash) is described in the "Curado Matero" section. With proper care of your calabash matero (mate gourd), you can be sure it will serve you for a long time. The curado process should be repeated 2 or 3 times, depending on how much pulp remains in the vessel.
The Espiral gourd needs more attention than ceramic gourds, which only need rinsing under running water, but they do not offer the same qualities as drinking from a natural calabash. Each subsequent preparation of yerba mate in the vessel seasons it and adds flavour. If you use a calabash gourd, it is best to get 2 of them. This is because a calabash needs quite a long time to dry completely, preferably no less than 24 h. That way, while one vessel is drying, you use the other. Find out more about how to use a calabash gourd properly.
Drinking yerba mate from a calabash is most popular in Argentina and Uruguay.
Individual gourds may differ slightly in colour (shade), shape and capacity. Any cracks that appear during use are not covered by complaints.
