Yerba mate Vezna Tradicional 500 g
A traditional Argentinian yerba without additives, another of our new arrivals from July 2024. We had heard a lot of good things about it, so it was only a matter of time before it joined our extensive yerba range.
The brand name is linked to Ukraine through the roots of the brand's founders, the Spaciuk family. Vezna is simply Ukrainian for spring, which is why the name has nothing to do with Spanish.
Vezna Tradicional contains leaf naturally aged for 12 months, grown near the town of Obera in the province of Misiones, Argentina. It is grown agroecologically, and although it does not hold the relevant certificate, it is undoubtedly a craft yerba from a small, niche plantation run by the Spaciuk family.
Inside the bag you will find coarsely cut leaves mixed with stems and a small, almost negligible amount of dust. The leaf is photogenic and tempts you to pour it into your matero (mate gourd) straight away.
It is dried using a traditional method that gives the leaf character, interesting flavour notes and an intriguing aroma. The producer describes its flavour as rich, intense and long-lasting, presenting the typical flavours of the Misiones province at their best.
When you open it, you notice a slightly hay-like aroma with woody, grainy and nutty notes. There is also a hint of dried fruit, an interesting nuance that is rather rare among available yerbas.
The infusion is fresh and grainy-nutty, with moderate bitterness and astringency - noticeable, but not excessive. Vezna Tradicional is slightly tart, hay-like and tea-and-nettle-like. That is why its aromas and flavours can, in a way, bring to mind the spring of its name, thanks to their lightness and freshness.
The intensity of the infusion stays at roughly the same level, but it lasts a long time, bravely holding up to further refills. It delivers a solid energy boost and satisfies your taste buds for many hours, making a wonderful companion on your yerba adventure.
