Yerba mate Królowa Tradicional 500 g
A new arrival from Argentina whose name points quite clearly towards Poland. The brand itself is a very young and ambitious venture, which so far has produced one variety without additions - Królowa Tradicional. It caught our eye a good few months ago, and now we can share it with you!
The Polish roots of the family that grows it are, of course, worth mentioning, but as always what matters most is what is inside the pack. And it does not disappoint!
Królowa Tradicional is an Argentinian yerba without additions; it contains fairly coarsely cut leaves with medium-sized stems and a small amount of dust, which makes it remarkably easy to prepare.
The beige, gold and black pack features the brand's main motif - a crown referring to its name, because a Queen undoubtedly needs a crown... :)
When you open the pack, a fairly mild aroma hits the nose - slightly hay-like, woody and grainy-nutty. Heavier or smoky notes are rather absent.
The flavour of Królowa Tradicional develops gradually over several refills; at first it is very delicate and mild. There is noticeable sweetness (creaminess), bitterness and astringency are rather moderate, and there is a light acidity. In the background you will find hay-like, grainy-nutty and woody notes. Over time the infusion gains a little intensity, but it is not one of the very intense and strong yerbas.
In character it reminds us of Liebig Original, Alba Nueva Suave or, to some extent, Alhild Tradicional.
It performs well in terms of longevity: the leaves easily hold up to repeated refills, delivering a pleasant flavour and moderate stimulation for a good few hours. It is undoubtedly a very good choice both for fans of milder Argentinian yerbas and for those who want a lighter brew a little later in the day without losing a night's sleep.
