Yerba Mate Itabo Tradicional Organica 500 g
A brand-new brand from Paraguay in our range, whose eco-friendly approach we like very much. Yerba mate Itabo comes from the rainforest areas of the Alto Parana province, where conditions are excellent for growing Paraguayan holly. The right humidity and temperature mean that the leaves and stems in the Itabo Organica pack are rich in antioxidants and valuable nutrients. The producer assures us that the taste and aroma of their yerba will almost take us to the Amazon jungle - we feel encouraged ;)
The main mission of the brand is to protect the natural environment that yerba comes from, which is why nature comes first in the production process. No agrochemicals or pesticides are used in cultivation. The resulting product is 100% organic and comes from the pristine areas of the Itabo Ecological Reserve located in Puente Kyjha, Canindeyu.
Itabo Tradicional is packed in a sealed zip-lock bag to preserve its full flavour and aroma. In addition, the whole thing is protected on the outside by a cardboard box, so the contents will not be damaged in delivery. The inner zip-lock bag is a very good idea, as it keeps the yerba fresh after opening without having to transfer it to other containers or packs.
The yerba itself is cut relatively finely, the leaves are fairly small, with an admixture of stems and a moderate amount of dust. When you open the pack, you are hit by an intense scent. There is a certain wildness to it, which the producer mentioned. So it seems they were not wrong about that... ;)
The aroma is slightly hay-like, lightly smoked and smoky - a very distinctive composition that certainly intrigues and invites you to prepare a serving quickly. There is something wild about it, which would match the origin of the yerba and the traditional drying process that gives it character.
The Itabo infusion delivers solid bitterness and astringency, light smokiness, and hay and grain notes to your taste buds. You will also find a sharp aftertaste reminiscent of eucalyptus. The infusion is remarkably rich and full of interesting nuances that make every sip an above-average taste experience.
In a way it combines features typical of Paraguayan yerbas with a subtle touch of the Argentinian style. As a result it is not overly heavy or too bitter.
The infusion provides an above-average dose of energy and is very long-lasting, which means Itabo may become one of our bestsellers alongside Onoiru and La Rubia.
The cultivation and production process is rigorous and certified by USDA Organic and Ceres Certified.
