Yerba mate Elda Magdalena Despalada 500 g
A classic, very leafy yerba from Argentina with an exceptionally bold flavour and a strong effect. It is rare to see yerba as well protected as this brand's. The producer uses a thick cardboard box plus an additional, tightly sealed inner paper bag, so we can enjoy the superb aroma and flavour of this yerba.
Elda Magdalena Despalada is a yerba naturally aged for 24 months, from the 2023 harvest. During ageing the leaves acquire additional aromatic and flavour qualities.
The attractive packaging design also deserves credit - it certainly catches the eye - but it is worth focusing on what is inside the pack, because that is always what matters most, and here everything checks out too!
Interestingly, the producer suggests making the first infusion with cooler water, around 40°C, and only then using warmer water, around 80°C, for the following infusions.
When you open the pack, you are greeted by an intense grainy aroma, slightly seaweed-like, tea-like and nettle-like, which personally reminds us of Yacuy Pure Leaf and Salam Despalada. The aroma undoubtedly promises a robust infusion with a rich flavour and a solid energy kick.
The infusion is intense from the start and delivers remarkable flavours. There is a strong, pronounced bitterness and astringency, but no heavy or smoky notes. In the background you will also find plenty of tea-like, nettle-like, seaweed-like and herbaceous notes. These background notes grow in intensity over time and have more to say in the infusion than during the first 2-3 infusions.
This new yerba from Elda Magdalena is an exceptionally long-lasting and outstanding choice that we definitely recommend to lovers of strong, classic yerbas from Argentina. It guarantees many hours of top-quality mate drinking, providing the energy you need to get things done.
