Opis produktu
Yerba mate Camino Nuevo Premium 500 g
A new craft offering, produced on a small scale, with a beautiful mission behind it. This is no ordinary yerba: the brand has set itself the ambitious goal of gradually restoring the jungle in the province of Misiones, a region of globally unique biodiversity.
The plant itself grows in fertile soil (the red soil you can see on the yerba packaging) and is cultivated with exceptional care and attention to quality. Hence its name: Camino Nuevo, meaning "new road", the path the producer wants to follow by delivering an above-average product.
The cultivation is fully controlled by the brand, with Yerbales tending the crops every day. After transplanting, the plant needs about 2 years before any cutting (pruning) can begin, which is aimed at increasing its potential. Later on, the segments are stronger and have a greater ability to sprout.
Drying is done using a conveyor belt system and takes several hours: the yerba is exposed to a temperature of about 120°C until its moisture content drops to 3%.
It consists of selected Paraguayan holly leaves, naturally aged for 24 months. The process is not artificially accelerated in any way, which is why the leaves acquire additional flavour qualities. The milling (grinding) itself is extremely careful and gentle, to preserve the right shape and size of the leaves.
The cut of the leaves is certainly very attractive and catches the eye; there are some stems and the amount of dust is minimal. When you open the pack, you are hit by an intense aroma of hay, slightly grainy and nutty - a successful composition.
Tempted by this beautiful aroma, we fill the gourd, pour the water and wait for the results. The infusion is dominated by a pleasant astringency with a subtle bitterness, with grainy and nutty notes in the background. Personally, it reminds me somewhat of oat cookies with roasted almonds and a delicate, sweetish finish. Add to that an astringent aftertaste on the tongue that lingers in the mouth for a long time.
In terms of energy it is rather average: it provides enough of a boost for many hours to keep you at the level you need, but without excessive stimulation. The leaves are quite economical and the flavour lasts a long time, letting you enjoy a delicious Argentinian infusion. Be sure to try it!
