Matcha tea is a popular tea, in this case from China, with an intense green colour and a flour-like texture. Please note that it is less green than the Japanese matcha available in our shop.
Matcha tea is made by grinding leaves of Tencha green tea. It is sometimes called the queen of green teas. The ceremony of drinking it is called chanoyu.
Matcha tea, unlike classic green tea, is sweeter and lighter. This comes from the production process, in which the tea bushes are covered with special mats before harvest to shield them from the sun. This gives a deeper, more pronounced aroma. This method of production causes more chlorophyll to be produced, which after a certain time turns into catechin. The leaves are then picked, dried and ground into a fine powder.
Green tea - properties:

How to prepare Matcha tea (short version):
- Put 1 teaspoon of tea into a bowl.
- Pour over water at 80-90 degrees Celsius.
- Whisk with a bamboo whisk until the powder has completely dissolved.
