Opis produktu

Gourd (cuia) decorated "Cavalo Crioulo" 215 ml

An unconventional vessel designed primarily for the finely ground Brazilian mate called chimarrao. A cuia is made from a gourd, but its shape differs from the classic Argentinian calabaza, because it comes from a different part of the plant, closer to the stem - hence its distinctive hourglass-like shape. Thanks to its size, it is the ideal choice for those who want to make the most of the charm and yield of chimarrao throughout the day.

Brazilians have loved chimarrao since time immemorial, and these vessels were used even before European conquistadors arrived in South America. They remain very popular today, and many people in Brazil cannot imagine life without their vessel and their favourite finely ground mate, chimarrao.

The "Cavalo Crioulo" gourd (cuia) is a fairly large (approx. 215 ml) natural vessel made from a gourd fruit, with a glued-on metal foot that keeps the cuia stable. There are also versions where the cuia consists of two parts: the vessel and a stand. This one is a single-piece version. Made by the Brazilian brand Arte Couro (Taura).

It features rich decoration all around the vessel with two dominant motifs: the "Chakana" pattern, popular in the Americas, with its characteristic diamonds, and the image of a Criollo horse, the so-called cavalo crioulo. On this particular vessel, the Chakana motif is laser-burnt all around, while the horse appears in only one place, showing its image and the inscription "cavalo crioulo". All decorations have been precisely laser-burnt. It has a burnt rim, which makes everyday use (drying) of the vessel easier in this area.

Before first use, we recommend pouring boiling water into it and leaving it for 1-2 h, or - the more recommended option - preparing an aromatic mixture, i.e. mate + any herbs (mint, lemongrass, etc.), which you put into the vessel, pour boiling water over and, as before, leave in the vessel for 1-2 h. After this time, empty the vessel, rinse off the remaining mate thoroughly, wipe the inside with a paper towel and leave it to dry for 1 day.

An important note on use: after each day of use, the cuia needs time to dry - ideally 24 hours to get rid of all moisture. If you forget about this, mould may appear in the vessel quite quickly and it will no longer be usable. Dry the vessel in its normal upright position, do not turn it upside down and do not shut it away in places without air circulation (e.g. in cupboards).

Only the one piece shown is available. It may have slight discolouration inside the vessel and scratches on the outside.
