It owes its unique colour and properties to the production process, in which the tea leaves undergo a short fermentation, so the leaves stay red. This also gives red tea its characteristic earthy, spicy flavour.
Red tea should be brewed for 3 to 7 minutes, ideally in a porcelain teapot. Leaving red tea to steep longer than recommended will make it very bitter.
